Housing
Housing costs have soared in recent years, exacerbating the housing shortage in our district and preventing families from finding affordable, quality housing. The promise of homeownership is critical for building generational wealth and stability for working families and the middle-class. We must address the rising costs of housing that are making it impossible for families to buy a home or cover the cost of rent.
Housing is a basic human and economic right. I will continue to fight in Congress to ensure working class families in my district and across the country can afford rent and have a clear pathway to homeownership.
Housing resources:
- CalWORKs Housing Support Program – assists families in the CalWORKs program that are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness.
- Alameda County Housing Secure – helps income-eligible households pay up to 15 months of rent and utilities.
- Santa Clara County COVID-19 Rent Relief – provides rental assistance for low-income Santa Clara County residents who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19.
- California Tenant Resources
My work in Congress:
I have introduced and cosponsored bills to help Americans secure safe and affordable housing including:
- The American Housing and Economic Mobility Act – Controls the cost of renting or buying a home by leveraging federal funding to build up to 3.2 million new housing units for lower-income and middle-class families.
- The Manufactured Housing Community Preservation Act – Creates a new grant program to help nonprofits, resident-formed cooperatives, and other local entities purchase and maintain an MHC through awards of up to $2 million.
- The Build Back Better Agenda – Increases the supply of affordable, quality rental units and supply of manufactured homes among other steps to make housing more affordable.
