While working Americans are struggling to afford gas at the pump, Big Oil is raking in the profits. Oil and gas companies currently have a stranglehold on our wallets and our futures, but we can still put a stop to Big Oil's profiteering, put money back in the pockets of Americans and invest in a renewable energy moonshot.
The recent breaching of the United States' embassy in Yemen's capital city of Sanaa by rebel forces, and the detaining of Yemeni employees of the embassy, is the latest escalation in a war that has gone on for far too long. It is a war that the United States has supported and remains deeply involved in. It's time for that complicity to end.
On November 5 we showed that our Congress is capable of coming together on a bipartisan basis to ensure that America leads in the 21st century. Democrats and Republicans voted to pass legislation that will rebuild our roads and bridges and make sure every American has clean drinking water and access to high-speed internet.
President Biden's announcement of a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, 2021, is a courageous step that we strongly support. It is also an opportunity to consider the enormous costs of nearly 20 years of war and commit to a better way of promoting Americans' security and prosperity.
The Black Lives Matter protests are highlighting our failure to live up to our nation's vision of "liberty and justice for all." These protests remind us that it is not enough to express solidarity; solidarity must be practiced.
