Washington, DC – Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), led by incoming Deputy Whip Ro Khanna (CA-17), CPC Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), and incoming Deputy Chair Katie Porter (CA-45), sent a letter to House and Senate leadership on Dec. 12th, calling for the inclusion of expanded Unemployment Insurance and other direct cash payments in any COVID stimulus deal.
Government is supposed to help people in need, not abandon them to their fates. But that's not what's happening here in the increasingly Dickensian United States, where both hunger and the shoplifting of basic necessities are on the rise, and the unemployed live in increasing despair.
