Good afternoon. I would like to provide a few updates about recent developments in Congress and share some important information.

The House Begins a Formal Impeachment Inquiry

This past Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump. This comes in response to an intelligence community whistleblower report alleging President Trump attempted to pressure the President of Ukraine to investigate the son of a political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden. A summary of the phone conversation released last week appears to confirm this transgression.

I continue to support the impeachment inquiry as a response to evidence that President Trump has abused the power of his office to influence a foreign country to intervene in our political system. I am pleased Speaker Pelosi has put the weight of her leadership behind these efforts. As a member of the Committee on Oversight and Reform – one of the six committees conducting investigations – you can be assured that I will continue to hold this President accountable for any wrongdoing. No president is above the law.

Defending America from Cyber Threats

It is vital that we ensure our nation's safety from cyber threats in the 21st Century. The new opportunities of the digital era have come with new risks. In response to these risks, I was proud to partner with Senators John Cornyn and Maggie Hassan and Representative John Ratcliffe to introduce a bipartisan bill improving cybersecurity at the federal, state, and local levels.
