Help with a Federal Agency

Federal Casework
One of Congressman Khanna’s most important jobs is helping his constituents when they are having problems with federal agencies. Here are a few quick questions to help you determine if The Congressman can assist you in your case:

Do you reside in the 17th Congressional District of the State of California?
Congressional courtesy dictates that each Member of Congress has the privilege and responsibility to serve his or her own constituents. If you are not sure which district you live in, please visit https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative.

You can enter your address and Zip Code to determine your Congressional Representative.

Does your case involve a federal agency?
If your concern is not with the federal government, but more local in nature, you may wish to contact your State, County, or City elected officials for help. Check below if you’re not sure who your local representative is:

Does the case you are concerned about involve you?
Due to privacy laws, Congressman Khanna must have the written consent of his constituent in order to make an official inquiry.

Is your situation a legal dispute?
As a member of the Legislative Branch, The Congressman is unable to become involved in court cases or legal issues. This restriction is due to the separation of powers as outlined in the Constitution. This restriction applies to both civil and criminal matters.

Is your case within the agency’s normal processing time?
Check this website to see if your case is within normal processing time: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/. It is rare that a case can be “sped up” for any reason other than extreme hardship. If you believe your situation merits faster processing, please fill out the form below.

What assistance can you expect from my office?
Congressman Khanna’s office is here to assist constituents with problems involving a federal agency. Although the Congressman is unable to assure a specific outcome regarding a particular case, the Congressman may make inquiries as to the status of your case, obtain additional information or direct you to appropriate resources or services. The Congressman's role is to assure you a fair and thorough review of your case and to seek a timely response from the agency.

If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, our office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.
