Energy and Environment
We must always prioritize America's economy and our national security. That means having the sources of energy to bring back manufacturing while having a moonshot in renewable energy and energy efficiency to create jobs, lower costs, end our dependence on petrostate authoritarians, and tackle the climate crisis. Investing in solar and wind is critical, and nuclear energy, geothermal, and clean hydrogen are also part of the solution.
I am working in Congress to advance legislation to spur a clean energy economy and protect our air and water. This includes the Modern Steel Act that will allow the government to partner with the steel industry and workers to build new, modern facilities producing near-zero emissions iron and steel and use cutting edge technologies like hydrogen direct reduction. It will also guarantee strong labor standards and train workers for good-paying jobs to produce the steel of the future.
We must make sure that we never compromise American manufacturers, American jobs, or American security in any transition and that our nation's energy needs are always met.
As the former Chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Environment, I led an investigation into the fossil fuel industry downplaying and spreading disinformation about its role in the climate crisis. I support legislation to repeal fossil fuel subsidies and close loopholes for fracking that exempt Big Oil companies from clean water and air regulations. I also support a ban on fracking on public lands. We can strengthen and diversify our economy while protecting our planet and providing for American workers and their families.
It is our responsibility to leave the planet healthy and safe for our children and future generations. This requires preserving open spaces, developing sustainable communities, practicing water conservation, and investing in alternative energy sources to achieve energy independence.
