September 2018
Good afternoon. I would like to provide a few updates about recent developments in Congress and share some important information.
Tech Opportunity for Minority Students
I joined Google in Sunnyvale for the launch of the Tech Exchange program, which brings students from primarily minority colleges to the Google campus for a year-long fellowship. As the tech industry continues to grow, we need to work to ensure that everyone can participate in the 21st century economy. The Silicon Valley owes its success to the diversity of its workforce, but we can still improve. I will continue to advocate for tech job opportunities that are accessible for all Americans, regardless of race, gender, or region.
Taking on Corporate Welfare
Senator Sanders and I wrote an op-ed in TIME calling for an end to corporate welfare funded by your tax dollars. For too long, the most profitable companies have been able to pay workers poverty wages because they know that the federal government will help make ends meet with public nutrition and health benefits. Our bill is simple: if big corporations aren't willing to pay their employees a living wage and benefits, then that company must reimburse taxpayers, dollar for dollar, for the public assistance that their workers need to survive.
Town hall
It was great to see so many of you and to answer your questions at my September town hall meeting in Santa Clara. I hope to see you at my next town hall starting at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 24th in the gym at Milpitas High School. If you can't make it, you can watch on Facebook Live. Please be sure to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @RepRoKhanna.

Calling for Bold Climate Leadership from Governor Brown
California has the sixth largest economy in the world which gives us a uniquely powerful position to lead on progressive policy. We need to use this influence to take on the powerful fossil fuel industry by stopping all new oil and gas extraction projects in our state. I co-authored an op-ed in the Mercury News calling for Gov. Brown to take this bold step and put Californians and our environment first.
A Tax Cut Democrats Can Back
Last year, Republicans in Congress passed a tax bill that drastically cut taxes for corporations and the top 1%, while providing little benefit to the middle and working classes. I believe that we need to boost the economy from the ground up by investing in working families, not the investor and donor classes. Please take a look at my ideas on a pro-growth, progressive tax policy in an op-ed I co-wrote for the Wall Street Journal.
