Good afternoon. I would like to provide a few updates about recent developments in Congress and share some important information.

Meeting with Former President Carter on Peace in North Korea

I had the honor of meeting with former President Jimmy Carter to discuss formally ending the Korean War, a conflict that officially continues almost 70 years after it began. In 1994, President Carter became the first U.S. President to visit North Korea, then meeting with former North Korean President Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of current North Korean President Kim Jong Un. During our meeting, President Carter shared that he was willing to travel back to the country to continue the dialogue and assist in the peacemaking process.

I support all efforts to roll back American involvement in foreign conflicts and unauthorized military aggressions. This includes ending U.S. support of the Saudi-led coalition's attacks in Yemen and backing the Administration's efforts to negotiate denuclearization of North Korea. We need smart foreign policy that keeps America safe by prioritizing peace. I look forward to working with President Carter to finally end this war.

Constituent Services Award Finalist

Constituent Services form the core of our work in Congress. #TeamKhanna was recently named by the Congressional Management Foundation as a finalist for the Democracy Awards in this category. We are among the top four offices in the House and Senate for constituent services out of 535 offices. We are proud to receive this recognition and pledge to continue serving the needs of the people of CA-17. Information on how we can help you is found at the bottom of this email.

In addition to direct constituent service, our office continues working to mitigate the Milpitas odor problem with the South Bay Odor Stakeholders Group and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. We are also working to reduce local airplane noise with the newly formed Santa Cruz / Santa Clara Counties Airport/Community Roundtable. We are dedicated to helping our constituents and solving problems.

Boosting Millions of Americans' Incomes

Wages for most Americans have not increased for the past 40 years, while corporate profits and executive salaries have skyrocketed. I have proposed a plan to fix this with my colleagues Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. Read our CNN op-ed on our bill to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit to boost the incomes of millions of everyday Americans.

Securing Our Elections

Robert Mueller has completed his investigation of Russia's interference in the 2016 election, but now is the time to shift our focus forward to preventing any future meddling in our elections by Russia or any other foreign governments. Read my Washington Post op-ed outlining our plan to protect U.S. elections with former Facebook Chief Security Office Alex Stamos and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul.
