June 2019
Good afternoon. I would like to provide a few updates about recent developments in Congress and share some important information.
No Unconstitutional War with Iran
I introduced a bipartisan amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that explicitly requires congressional authorization for any military action against Iran. Our nation was only minutes away from executing a deadly and unauthorized strike last week that could have plunged us into another endless military quagmire in the Middle East. It is time for Congress to take back our constitutionally-granted authority on matters of war.
Honoring Standout Constituents
At my most recent town hall meeting in Alviso, it was my privilege to recognize a group of constituents who lead in the march towards full equality for LGBTQ Americans. The honorees were: Ken Yeager, Sera Fernando, Paul Escobar, Adrienne Keel, Spandan Chakrabarti, Tim Orozco and Nicole Altamirano. We can never be complacent in the fight for the rights of our LGBTQ community.
I also held a reception for the outstanding high school student nominees who were accepted for admission to the service academies this coming fall. I was proud to nominate Lakhan Sing, Neel Khattri, and Marie San Luis to West Point - The U.S. Military Academy, and Patrick Yi to the U.S. Air Force Academy. I thank my Service Academy Nomination Committee, and I encourage every interested student in CA-17 to consider applying via my website for nomination this fall.
Town hall
It was great to see so many of you and answer your questions at this month's town hall in Alviso. I hope to see you again at my next town hall in Milpitas on July 2nd starting at 7:30 PM in the Theater at Milpitas High School. If you can't attend, you can watch on Facebook Live. Please be sure to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @RepRoKhanna.

How California Can Lead the Fight Against Climate Change
Governor Newsom's latest budget commits California to becoming "carbon-neutral" by 2045. That's an admirable goal but one that will fall short of what must be done to save the planet for future generations, according to scientists. Read my full op-ed with Annie Leonard of Greenpeace in the Sacramento Bee detailing what California must do to solve the climate crisis.
My Vision in Congress
I sat down with John Nichols with the Nation recently to discuss my upbringing outside Philadelphia, the influence of my grandfather who protested alongside Gandhi, and my vision for America while I serve in Congress. You can listen to the podcast or read the full transcript of our conversation here.
