STATEMENT: Rep. Ro Khanna on Firing of FBI Director James Comey

May 10, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) issued the following statement:

"The President's decision to remove FBI Director James Comey raises serious questions about the independence of law enforcement. That is why I support a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election. It is the only way we can restore trust in our democratic institutions. Now is the time for Congress to take action on the Protecting Our Democracy Act, a bill that has the support of the entire Democratic caucus. The bill would create a 12-member, bipartisan, independent commission empowered to interview witnesses, obtain documents, issue subpoenas, and receive public testimony to examine attempts by the Russian government and others to use electronic means to influence, interfere with, or sow distrust in last year's U.S. elections."
