Santa Clara County House Reps Announce $600K+ in Federal Funding for Valley Water
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced that the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Reclamation will distribute $680,429 to Valley Water for two planning studies on increasing the water supply in the region.
“Climate change poses a serious risk to our water supply. As weather conditions become more unpredictable, we must protect communities’ access to clean and safe water. We’re glad to announce this federal funding that helps our communities make the best plans for a secure water supply and related infrastructure,” said Reps. Khanna, Lofgren, Eshoo, and Panetta. “We worked on and voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law under the Democratic majority in the last Congress because we knew projects like these desperately needed to advance. Our communities depend on sound water infrastructure, and we need to look toward the future.”
The Members announced the following projects:
- $381,249 to study the feasibility of a new advanced water purification facility in San Jose.
- $299,180 to study additional water treatment and pipeline projects to increase the use of recycled water in Santa Clara County.
This funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s WaterSMART and Small Storage programs, FY23 consolidated appropriations package, and the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act.
