RELEASE: RO KHANNA SECURES FUNDING FOR PROJECTS IN CA-17 AND OTHER CRITICAL INVESTMENTS IN THE GOVERNMENT FUNDING BILL
Santa Clara, CA –Today, Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17), announced that $24,351,000 in Community Project Funding that he previously secured for California's 17th District in the House spending bills has been included in the final 2023 appropriations government funding package. This funding responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in Silicon Valley. Rep. Khanna also worked to secure $459 million for regional tech hubs in the CHIPS and Science Act, $42 million for implementation of the Department of Defense's Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan, and $300 million for the National Labor Relations Board in the spending bill that passed the House and Senate.
"I am proud to have secured $24,351,000 in Community Project Funding in this bill to strengthen education, housing, public health, infrastructure, and our response to climate change in California's 17th District," said Rep. Ro Khanna. "I'm grateful to have worked alongside my colleagues in the South Bay to include these investments that will create good-paying jobs and benefit our community for years to come. The bill includes funding for programs in the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act to lower costs for working families across America. It also gives the National Labor Relations Board the first increase in funding since 2014 to help protect workers' rights. Finally, it sets aside significant funding for reducing civilian casualties in U.S. military operations, including $17 million above the amount authorized in the National Defense Authorization Act."
Rep. Khanna championed funding for 14 projects that will directly benefit California's 17th District residents. These include:
- City of Cupertino, De Anza College - California Youth Leadership Corps at De Anza College ($351,000)
- City of Fremont - Commercial District Wi-Fi Access Expansion ($1,500,000)

The twelve-bill government funding package will create good-paying American jobs, grow opportunity for the middle class and small businesses, and provide a lifeline for working families. Taken together, the funding for California's 17th District and the funding increases for critical government programs will continue to reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities.
Now that the House and Senate have passed this legislation, it will go to President Biden's desk for his signature. A detailed summary of the bill is available here.
