RELEASE: KHANNA HOSTS FIRESIDE CHAT WITH SENATOR ROB PORTMAN, INTEL CEO PAT GELSINGER ON AMERICA COMPETES AND CHIPS FUNDING
Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA), a member of the conference committee for the America COMPETES Act, hosted a fireside chat with Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. The conversation focused on bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States and the importance of passing the America COMPETES Act and CHIPS funding.
Rep. Khanna, who represents Silicon Valley where Intel is headquartered, outlined the significance of Intel's commitment to invest 20 billion dollars and build at least two new semiconductor factories in Ohio. These factories are expected to create three thousand new company jobs in the state, seven thousand construction jobs, and tens of thousands of additional jobs for suppliers and companies in the area.
The lawmakers spoke about the need to establish technology and manufacturing hubs around the country and discussed why America COMPETES and the CHIPS Act are still being held up in Congress.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger reiterated his commitment to invest 20 billion dollars in Ohio and urged Congress to pass the CHIPS Act to help Intel increase its investment in the state. The group agreed that Congress must move quickly to pass the America COMPETES Act and deliver the bill to President Biden's desk before July 4th.
