RELEASE: Khanna to bring Reverend Jethroe Moore II to the State of the Union

February 4, 2020
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC Tonight, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) will welcome Reverend Jethroe Moore II to the U.S. Capitol as the Congressman’s guest to the annual State of the Union.

Rev. Moore currently serves as the President of the San Jose/Silicon Valley National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Previously, Rev. Moore was the co-chair and founder Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet, a partnership working to promote the public safety, educational advancement, and economic prosperity of persons of African descent residing in the Santa Clara Valley. Additionally, Rev. Moore has worked with the Coalition for Justice and Accountability, SCC Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare Models for Change: Executive Steering Committee, SJPD Community Advisory Board, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and a number of other community organizations.

“I am honored to bring Rev. Moore as my guest this evening,” said Rep. Ro Khanna. “From his advocacy for greater access for Black Americans to the technology jobs of the future, to his efforts to tackle police brutality, Rev. Moore has done incredible work across the South Bay. I’m pleased he could join me tonight, and every day, as we continue to fight for equal treatment and equal access for every American.”

“I was astounded and tremendously grateful when invited by Congressman Ro Khanna, and I am still at a loss for words,” said Reverend Jethroe Moore II. “To be able to attend a State of the Union Address at this most crucial time in our nation’s history and to sit in the hallowed halls where so many historical figures have stood for the rights of the underprivileged citizens of America will be awe-inspiring. I am accepting this honor, but that honor rightly belongs to the people of Santa Clara County and equally to the great communities that I have had the good fortune to work with at the various stages of our common struggle for equal rights. Thank you, Congressman Ro Khanna, from all of us.”
