MEDIA ADVISORY FOR REP. KHANNA’S SANTA CLARA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY INFRASTRUCTURE TOUR
Rep. Ro Khanna will tour Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) sites on Thursday, February 24th at 4pm PT to discuss investments in transportation and clean energy
Santa Clara, CA – Thursday, February 24, 2022, starting at 4 pm PT, Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) will visit VTA sites, including the BART Silicon Valley Phase II Project future Santa Clara Station site and the Cerone Division Bus Yard.
The BART Phase II Project, the largest public infrastructure project ever constructed in Santa Clara County, will reduce traffic congestion, carry over 50,000 passengers per weekday, and connect Bay Area residents to thousands of jobs in the area. Rep. Khanna will tour the sites and discuss how improvements in transportation infrastructure will benefit the community.
VTA's Cerone Bus Yard is the site of the agency's cutting edge microgrid electric bus charging project, which will provide charging capabilities when the agency is required to reach a full, zero emission fleet by 2040, in accordance with a mandate of the California Air Resources Board. VTA currently has ten (10) electric buses with plans to purchase up to 34 more later this year. The microgrid project is supported by the National Renewable Energy Lab to enable VTA to inform other transit agencies of progress made to charge a fleet of electric buses while managing stress on the California electric grid.
