RELEASE: KHANNA GOVERNMENT SERVICE DELIVERY IMPROVEMENT ACT CLEARS HOUSE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

February 6, 2024

Washington, DCToday, the House Oversight Committee unanimously approved the bipartisan Government Service Delivery Improvement Act introduced by Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17), Byron Donalds (FL-19), Barry Loudermilk (GA-11), and William Timmons (SC-04) and championed by Ranking Member of the Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation Subcommittee Gerry Connolly. The bill will improve the public’s experience with government services by increasing accountability and coordination across the federal government agencies.

“I’m glad to see this bill pass unanimously out of the House Oversight Committee today and hope it will next move swiftly in the Senate. The bill is simple: The federal government has an obligation to efficiently and effectively deliver quality services that Americans rely on including Social Security, retirement benefits, Medicare health coverage, veterans’ programs, student loans and grants. The Government Service Delivery Improvement Act is a bipartisan solution that will directly help constituents by making the delivery of government services more efficient and reliable,” said Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA).

“The federal government is only as good as the quality of services it provides to the American people,” said Ranking Member of the Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation Subcommittee Gerry Connolly. “That’s why it’s absolutely imperative that the public interacts with a modern, accessible, and customer-focused government. And it’s why it’s equally important that the federal government is able to measure its progress in that regard. I’m proud to join Rep. Khanna and my colleagues in promoting a federal government that works, first and foremost, for the people it serves.”

This legislation prompts the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to designate or appoint a senior official at OMB whose primary responsibility is to lead and coordinate the improvement of delivering government services to the public. The bill also requires agency heads to be responsible for improving government services, building better trust with the public, and designating a senior agency official to drive changes.
